White Noise Sound (WNS)
Weaving "thrilling, metronomic Krautrock riffs, tranquillised lullabies and lysergic explosions" (Q) from the shadows of the Welsh mountains, White Noise Sound (WNS) channelled their own chimeric wall of sound.
Shaped as they performed across the UK and Germany, the band completed their eponymous debut album with the assistance of luminaries Pete Kember (Spacemen 3 / Sonic Boom / Spectrum) and Cian Ciarán (Super Furry Animals / Das Koolies).
Proclaimed "a psychedelic shoegaze gem" (The Times), 'White Noise Sound (WNS1)' was originally released globally in 2010 by California’s Alive Records. Despite its esoteric propulsion, the album was greeted with widespread critical praise and has since earned cult status - anointed by both psychedelic icons and electronic visionaries alike, from Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Bobby Hecksher (The Warlocks), to Daniel Avery, Phil Kieran and Andrew Weatherall’s Scrutton Street circle.
The following years saw select UK and European live appearances, including shows with Super Furry Animals, Spectrum, The Warlocks, Daniel Avery and members of Orbital, Ride, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. They also yielded an alchemical collaboration with Belfast’s techno shapeshifter Phil Kieran - a synthesis of neo-psychedelia and house, culminating in a Beatport chart-topping single in 2012, with remixes by the likes of Maya Jane Coles.
WNS rose again in 2015 with their second LP, 'Like a Pyramid of Fire (WNS2)'. Working closely with Kieran and rekindling their creative bond with Ciarán, ‘WNS2’ saw the band “transcend their opiated roar and blissed-out walls of sound" (Artrocker). Championed by Andrew Weatherall and again by Anton Newcombe, the album received heavy rotation at BBC Radio, while WNS joined The Jesus and Mary Chain on stage - "building an actual cathedral of sound with their verging on the mythical” live performances (The Guardian) - before they returned to the Welsh mountains at the close of 2015.
In 2025 / 2026, WNS re-emerged with a triptych of Rocket Girl releases celebrating their elemental energies - an unbounded force from the arcane depths of British neo-psychedelia:
- July 2025: 'White Noise Sound (WNS1)' - Reissued
- October 2025: 'Fold-In Time' - WNS1 Remixed
- March 2026: ‘The Circle is Red’ - WNS Live in Europe
