Live A Little

CD EP (dita001)
Released 3 March 2003

'LIVE A LITTLE' / 'GIVE ME A BREAK' is the follow-up to the independent smash debut single 'Hey Gravity' released by M.A.S.S. in the summer of 2002. London's independent radio station XFM described 'Hey Gravity' as "proves itself the best debut you'll hear this year."

The track ended up in many people's 'best single of 2002' year lists, including one of the best six tracks of the year [along with QOTSA and Flaming Lips] on the BBC's new digital music station 6Music yearly round up, the number six slot in John Peel's Festive 50 and played as one of the best sessions of the year on XFM.

'LIVE A LITTLE' is even bigger and better than it's predecessor. Two and half minutes of pure rock and roll with a killer chorus that has already had both XFM and 6Music on the phone asking when it is available for play-list. The strength of 'GIVE ME A BREAK' a live favourite, also makes it a contender as a double 'A' side.

M.A.S.S. are a five-piece rock and roll powerhouse fronted by vocalist Justine Berry and cite The White Stripes, Von Bondies and Blondie amongst their influences. Based in London but with members from Norway and Ireland as well as the UK, it is live where they excel and have been creating a growing following through steady touring and their powerful live shows. The NME live review said "Think The Kinks, Elastica and more recent heroes like The Pattern: bands who's enveloping volume defines them."

Justine ended 2002 making a guest appearance at a special charity Christmas party singing a song as a guest vocalist along with Ed Harcourt, The Libertines and Ainslie from Fame Academy, Rialto and Courtney Love.

From day one, M.A.S.S. have also had strong support from both National and local radio. Jo Whiley was the first DJ to play M.A.S.S. on the radio and this was coupled with them being the first band to be a featured on Radio One's OneMusic website. Steve Lamacq has also been a supporter, as has John Peel. M.A.S.S. recorded their debut Radio One session for John Peel in October 2002, broadcast in November and included four new tracks including a version of 'Live A Little' which is on the new single.

M.A.S.S. have a strong independent ethic, retaining full control of their own recordings and work. 'Hey Gravity' was licensed to Radiate Records as a one-off deal only AFTER it had been played on the radio. The new single is a result of new recording sessions and also includes a third bonus track 'UNBREAKABLE' recorded at the famous Toe Rag Studios and Co-produced with Liam the owner / house producer, who is also currently working there on the new album by The White Stripes and who's other recent clients have been The Datsuns.
